Fundación Terra and The Trust for the Americas of the OAS join forces to provide greater access to technology in Honduras.
Fundación Terra joins The Trust for the Americas' Social Franchise initiative to train people initially in Honduras during 2023 and subsequently in the northern triangle region of the area. The social franchise is part of the Economic Opportunities through Technology in the Americas Program, known as POETA in Spanish.
Washington DC, December 6, 2022. Through the signing of incorporation into the POETA Social Franchise (Economic Opportunities through Technology Program in America), Fundación Terra will collaborate with The Trust for the Americas to inaugurate four POETA centers in Honduras during 2023 and later in the region.
The POETA Social Franchise aims to promote social and economic inclusion of vulnerable populations in Latin America and the Caribbean through access, use, and appropriation of technologies and comprehensive in-person and virtual educational strategies.
As a member organization of the Partnership for Central America (PCA), and in its ongoing commitment and work towards promoting economic opportunities to address the root causes of migration in the northern triangle of the region, Fundación Terra signs this alliance with The Trust for the Americas with the conviction that the POETA Centers will provide comprehensive and inclusive educational opportunities with digital skills and life skills, aiming to shape citizens committed to the development of their surroundings.
Pierina Nepote, Manager of the POETA Program, emphasized, "For The Trust for the Americas, it is an honor to incorporate Fundación Terra into our POETA Social Franchise network. From the POETA Team, we are excited to work closely with the great team behind Foundation Terra to strengthen the profiles of Honduran men and women, particularly through the promotion of skills and tools useful for those who wish to start and strengthen their entrepreneurship."
Initially, the Centers that will open their spaces for the implementation of the POETA Social Franchise will be located in the Department of Francisco Morazán, the Department of Cortés, and the Department of Choluteca in Honduras, where participants will have access to:
- Technical training with access and induction to the POETA Social Franchise and Trust Academy: Toolbox, virtual trust classroom (Moodle), and capacitate (Microsoft Community Training).
- Tools for data collection, systematization, monitoring, and analysis.
- Permanent support and personalized advice on strategies framed in POETA.
- Microsoft software licenses.
- Training and professional development through virtual or in-person courses.
- Access to scholarships and discounts for available certification courses.
Fundación Terra's Presidents, Architect Fredy Nasser, commented, "We thank The Trust for the Americas for the trust placed in us. We are confident that this alliance will allow us to continue working to create conditions that facilitate access to connectivity for educational purposes in vulnerable populations lacking technological tools, as well as the strengthening of capacities, skills, and abilities that enable access to work and economic growth."
